Pollinator Garden Project.
What began as a simple classroom idea has blossomed into a certified pollinator habitat, officially recognized by the Canadian Wildlife Federation! 🌿🐝
Thanks to the dedication of students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 and the support of a generous grant, our school’s 5 ft x 40 ft pollinator garden is now home to native plants, a bee house for solitary pollinators, birdhouses for robins and chickadees, and a water dish to support visiting wildlife. Every addition was chosen to meet national certification requirements and to foster a thriving, biodiverse space right on our school grounds.
This project has been deeply hands-on and cross-curricular. Younger students explored pollinators through art and science; middle grades grew plants from seed and learned about soil health; and older students led the way by prepping garden beds, conducting soil tests, mapping out the layout, and choosing the right native plants—all while applying real-world science and math skills.
Our certified garden is more than just a beautiful outdoor space—it’s a symbol of teamwork, sustainability, and environmental learning. Rain or shine, students helped bring this space to life and have taken true ownership of it. Up next: a vegetable garden to support our hot lunch program and connect nature, nutrition, and learning in a whole new way.
♻️ The Compost Project
We’re excited to launch The Compost Project, a student-led initiative focused on environmental responsibility and sustainable living. Made possible through a generous grant from Learning for a Sustainable Future (LSF), this project will help us reduce waste at RCA and teach students the importance of composting as a practical way to care for the planet.
Our Grade 8 students will officially launch the project during our March/April assembly, introducing the school community to how composting works and how everyone can take part. It’s one more way we’re working together to build a greener future—one banana peel at a time!
