Six am on a Saturday morning is a time that I rarely acknowledge, but it was at that moment that I could ignore the cats’ Herculean attempts to get me up to feed them no longer. In addition, Timothy started calling the puppies loudly, begging them to come outside and play. And so, grumbling all the while, I fed the cats and then headed out of the door with the dogs.
In concept early morning walks are not something I enjoy, the reality usually turns out quite different…

The Angel Garden is in shock, it does not know if it is coming or going.
In March the irises started their shy breach of icy earth. Sending forth their sharp pointed leaves into the unseasonally warm sunshine, they started to unfurl, luxuriating in the warmth. Sadly, they found themselves quickly cowed - beaten back and frost bitten by the return to ice and snow.

My body rejects the hideously early wake up call that I am imposing upon it. Eyes blinking back the desert grains that lie behind their lids, I avoid the mirror as an exercise in futility and dress quickly. Ready, I open the door and stand momentarily on the damp step. Breathing in the moist air, I take in the looming bulk of the church across the road and the premature dawn chorus that sounds through the darkness.
